MILWAUKEE -- A polar bear at the Milwaukee County Zoo was stuck in the moat around his exhibit Tuesday. The bear, named Zero, was playing with a toy on Monday when he fell over into a net, WISN-TV in Milwaukee reported. The net was placed there in case a bear ever fell into the moat.A crew lowered the net, allowing Zero to walk around the floor of the moat.
The zoo director said there are stairs in the moat so the bear can go back up. But he said Zero might stay there four or five days -- until he's hungry.A zoo spokesman said the bear is just fine and is enjoying a small tree that is in the area.Zero fell into that same area about eight years ago. Zoo officials said it took about seven or eight days before he decided to climb back up.Zero weighs 1,500 to 1,600 pounds and stands about 12 feet tall.He was born in the Milwaukee County Zoo in 1989 and has lived there his entire life.Zero's regular diet includes fish, fruits and vegetables and lard balls.
