BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Belle Vernon school district is forming a drug task force to look into a perceived drug problem at the high school.Several parents confronted the school board about the problem during a meeting Monday night.A parent quoted a probation officer as saying up to 75 percent of the high school's students are using, or have used drugs. She offered no facts to back up those figures but the school administration said it would try to be part of the solution.
Students with whom WTAE Channel 4 Action News spoke said there are not nearly that many students on drugs, but they and others agree that a drug task force is a positive first step."Absolutely I think it would help," said Patrick Egros, of Rostraver. "Drugs are becoming a real problem in the Mon Valley."The Belle Vernon drug task force will hold its initial meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the school administration building.
