NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. -- A North Braddock woman was at work as her home went up in flames.Firefighters were called to the 500 block of Hawkins Avenue just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday.Rescue workers were worried initially when they couldn't find the homeowner. But she was safe at work while the thick heavy smoke billowed from her home.
The fire chief said when crews arrived flames were shooting from every part of the house. Two neighboring homes suffered minor damage from the flames. Neighbor Carmen McCary said she was forced to evacuate."So far they said from the fire and the heat, it actually blew out one of our windows. We got water damage. We can't go in to see. When they knocked on our door, they told us we had to evacuate, like, now. So we basically just left," McCary said.No one was hurt, but fire officials said the home was destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.More local news...
