Bengals Fans Dump Steelers Tix; Cincy Mayor Urges Support

Thousands Of Game Tickets Available Online

UPDATED: 11:43 pm EDT October 15, 2008

Disappointed fans of the winless Cincinnati Bengals are trying to unload thousands of tickets for home games, many of them well below face value.

StubHub.com has 3,000 tickets for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. At least 4,000 tickets are available for each of the remaining games.

Some sellers don't care about making a profit. There are $64 tickets priced as low as $24.

"They're not fans. If you're selling your tickets below ticket price, at $24 I believe it is, tickets go for $65, and they're selling them for $24, they lost faith in their team and it's sad," said James Mosley, a Steelers fan.

"I think that's crazy, but if they're selling, I'll be there to buy them," said Steve Murray, a Steelers fan.

As for playing in Ohio, Big Ben expects to feel right at home for more than one reason.

"I love to go back there and play just because, growing up, there were so many Browns and Bengals fans, and it feels good to win," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said.

Longtime fan Steve Carr told the Cincinnati Enquirer it has gotten so he can't even bear to watch the 0-6 Bengals on TV.

"It's not worth it," Carr told the newspaper. "I was yelling at the TV watching that game," a 26-14 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he shares that frustration and feels responsible. He said he hopes fans will wait patiently for a turnaround.

"That's what you get when you don't win. It's their tickets, they can pretty much do what they want," said T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a wide receiver for the Bengals.

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory said it's time for the city to show its stripes. The mayor is urging residents to support the Bengals despite the team's winless record.

Mallory said the team needs support more than ever against Pittsburgh on Sunday. He plans to tailgate before the game.

He said fans should match the loyalty of Steelers stalwarts, who are expected to throng to Cincinnati for the game.
