Steelers Bring Back Berger To Punt

POSTED: 1:23 pm EST November 24, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers changed punters for the second time this month on Monday, re-signing Mitch Berger and releasing Paul Ernster.

Ernster was signed to replace Berger on November 5, but he averaged just 31.6 yards per punt in three games.

Berger was the club's punter for the first eight games and averaged 41.9 yards. He was signed after Daniel Sepulveda's season-ending knee injury in training camp.

The 36-year-old Berger began his NFL career with Philadelphia in 1994 and has also played for Minnesota, St. Louis, New Orleans and Arizona. He earned a trip to the 2005 Pro Bowl with the Saints.
