A long-awaited ramp connecting Route 28 and Interstate 279 was opened to traffic on Thursday morning.

The new ramp will be Exit 8 on Pittsburgh's North Side.

It allows inbound traffic on Route 28 to access inbound I-279 without exiting to East Ohio Street.

Drivers can also bypass several traffic lights with the new ramp.
